| These photographs represent work in progress to capture the subtle beauty of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula Rivers, Streams and Waterfalls. The images were taken in Alder, Baraga, Gogebic and Marquette counties. It’s like being on a treasure hunt, searching out these natural wonders that lay hidden in Michigan’s woodlands.
The challenge of photographing streams and waterfalls is to not focus on the typical attraction i.e. white water falling over rocks. It’s hard to avoid these magnificent displays of cascading water, but I’m trying to find some element of the river or stream that conveys a feeling of serenity about the location. When you come upon the object of your search, when you first see the stream or falls, there is a magic moment of first discovery and that is what I want to capture on film. |
