I became interested in photographing industrial machines in 1990. I admired the industrial work of other photographers such as Paul Strand, Charles Sheeler, Winston Link, Michael Kenna, and David Plowden. They no doubt, stimulated my interest to explore the photographic possibilities with industrial machines. I had the best opportunity to pursue the subject matter since the Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn, Michigan has quite a collection of early and modern automotive manufacturing machinery.
The challenge for me was to focus on individual machines and visualize those mechanical characteristics that would appeal to our senses in an artistic way.
The images rely on geometry, texture and lighting to draw all the elements together.
